What Rose quartz means
Rose quartz rarely grows in pointed crystals at all; most of it is found as massive pink stone, mined by the ton from pegmatites in Brazil and South Dakota's Black Hills. Its pink comes from fibres too fine to see, a relative of dumortierite threaded through the quartz.
Emotional properties
Rose quartz softens the reflex to answer sharpness with more of the same, the retort that would satisfy for a second and cost more later. Its pink asks for nothing grander than the kinder version of whatever you were about to say. The email that stung can wait an hour for its answer, with the stone next to the keyboard in the meantime.
Spiritual properties
Rose quartz answers to Venus in modern crystal astrology, the planet of whatever a person finds lovely and chooses to keep close. Physical properties
Facial rollers are often cut from rose quartz, polished smooth enough to glide over skin without dragging. Roll one outward from the centre of the brow toward the temples, then along each cheekbone, slowly, after a day spent frowning at small print. The smooth stone is a cue to let the frown go.
Care and cleansing
Sunlight is its one real risk: weeks on a bright sill can pale rose quartz's pink. Hold it under the running tap, let a full moon recharge it, and keep a bag just for it so other stones cannot scuff its polish.
