The short version
- You can use every reading, chart and calculator without an account and without telling us who you are.
- Charts, numerology and readings are calculated in your browser. Your birth details reach our server only if you sign in and choose to save them.
- There are no advertising or analytics trackers on this site, and we do not sell or share your information for marketing.
- You can delete a saved reading, your saved birth details, your newsletter signup or your whole account yourself, at any time.
Who runs this site
Ishtar Insights is an independent site made by Genevieve and run from the United States. For anything on this page, write to hello@ishtarinsights.com.
What stays in your browser
Birth charts, transits, the Vedic and Chinese charts, numerology, tarot draws and the other readings are worked out on your own device. The city search for a birthplace and the astrocartography map use files served from this site, so the place you type is not sent to a lookup service.
The site can remember a few things in your browser's local storage, and only if you choose “Allow saving”: your birth profile and chart settings, your chosen deck, today's card, a Sun sign you picked, and a flag that you already joined the newsletter. Choosing “No optional saving” keeps these in the page's memory only, and they are gone when you close or reload the page. Cookies & browser storage has the detail and the controls.
Accounts
An account is optional. It exists so that saved readings and birth details follow you between devices. We store your email address and the date you joined. There is no password: you sign in with a six-digit code sent to your email, which expires after three minutes. The code email is delivered by Resend, which receives your address and the code and nothing else.
While you are signed in we set two cookies: a session cookie that keeps you signed in for up to 30 days, and a security token that protects your account requests. Both are necessary for the account to work and neither is used for tracking.
What you can choose to save to your account
Birth details. Your birth date, time, birthplace and chart settings, controlled by the “Save my birth details to my account” switch. Turning the switch off deletes them from our server.
Your journal. Each reading you save is stored with what it needs to be shown again. Depending on the reading, that can include the cards or figures drawn, your question and your own note, the birth date, time and place a chart was drawn for, a second person's birth details in a relationship chart, and a name you entered for numerology. The page tells you what a save includes before you save it. An account can hold up to 500 saved readings, and you can delete any of them.
If you save a chart that includes someone else's birth details, please make sure they are comfortable with that.
The newsletter
The newsletter is a separate choice from both browser saving and accounts. If you join, we store your email address, when and how you gave permission, an unsubscribe link and, if you pick one, a Sun sign. Mailchimp delivers the emails and receives your address, that sign and your unsubscribe link. Birth details are never sent to Mailchimp. Unsubscribing deletes your signup from our database and removes you from Mailchimp within ten minutes. Newsletter privacy has the full detail.
Deleting your account does not unsubscribe you from the newsletter, and unsubscribing does not delete your account. They are kept apart on purpose, so use both if you want both gone.
Other services involved
- Resend delivers sign-in codes. It receives your email address and the code.
- Mailchimp (Intuit) delivers the newsletter. It receives your email address, your chosen sign and your unsubscribe link.
That is the whole list, and neither is involved unless you sign in or join the newsletter. There is no analytics service, advertising network, error-reporting service, payment processor, map provider, font host or content delivery network. Fonts, scripts, images and maps are served from this site, so opening a page does not contact any other company. The daily horoscope and the newsletter are written by a language model running on our own computer from that day's calculated sky; nothing about you is sent to an AI service, because the writing does not use anything about you.
Server logs and IP addresses
We do not store IP addresses with your account, your readings or your newsletter signup. To limit abuse, sign-in and newsletter requests are rate limited by IP address, which holds an address in a short-lived counter. Request logging is switched off for the account and newsletter services. The web server that delivers the pages may keep ordinary request logs, which include IP addresses, for a limited time.
Where your information is kept
The site and its database run on a virtual server hosted by Bluehost in the United States. The database sits outside the public website folder and only the site's own services and its administrators can read it. It is backed up every night. Fourteen nightly copies are kept on the server, and the same fourteen are copied over an encrypted connection to a private storage device of ours in the United States, so that a failed disk cannot lose your journal. When you delete something, it is removed from the live database at once and drops out of the last backup within about two weeks.
We keep account information and saved readings until you delete them, and a newsletter signup until you unsubscribe. There is currently no automatic expiry for an unused account, so if you stop using yours, delete it.
Deleting your information
- A saved reading: delete it from your journal on the Account page.
- Saved birth details: turn off “Save my birth details to my account”.
- Your whole account: use “Delete account” on the Account page. This removes your email address, your saved birth details and every saved reading.
- The newsletter: use the link in any issue or the unsubscribe page.
- What your browser holds: choose “No optional saving” under “Cookie settings”, or clear this site's data in your browser.
If you would like a copy of what we hold about you, a correction, or help with any of the above, write to hello@ishtarinsights.com from the address on your account. Depending on where you live, the law may give you rights of access, correction, deletion and objection; we will honor those requests wherever you are.
Children
Ishtar Insights is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, write to us and we will delete it.
Changes
When this page changes, the date at the top changes with it. If a change affects how information you have already saved is used, we will say so on the site before it takes effect.
