What Stilbite means

Stilbite crystallises in bundles pinched at the waist like a tied sheaf of wheat, most famously inside the lava cavities of India's Deccan Traps. A pearly lustre on its broad faces earned it a name from the Greek stilbein, to shine.

Emotional properties

Think back over how kindness actually reached you today, in a cup of tea put down without a word or a message asking whether you got home. Stilbite suits comfort at that scale, a soft peach fan that would snap under a heavy hand. Four or five of those small things make a good day, even when nothing large went right.

Spiritual properties

In the old lava of the Deccan, a gas bubble fills over ages, one mineral after another laid down by warm groundwater, with stilbite and apophyllite among the later arrivals. Each mineral grows on the ones that came before it, so none of them arrives out of turn. Your own growth keeps a sequence too, and the stage you are in now rests on every one you have already finished.

Physical properties

Stilbite's thin blades chip under a firm grip, so the only way to handle a specimen is slowly, with fingertips under its base. Moving at that pace for a minute or two carries over: the hands slow down, and the shoulders follow them. A rushed day comes down through the fingers first.

Care and cleansing

Stilbite's soft, brittle blades rule out a hard rinse or a shared pouch where firmer stones could chip them. A light pass of smoke cleanses it, and a few hours of indirect daylight charge it. Keep it alone on a padded shelf.
