What Spirit quartz means
Spirit quartz wears a second crop of tiny points over the faces of a larger crystal, hundreds of them crowded around the main point. Its main source is Boekenhouthoek, north-east of Pretoria in South Africa, where it is usually amethyst purple and sometimes a pale gold.
Emotional properties
Write down every small thing waiting on you: the reply, the form, the parcel to return, the plant to repot. Twenty small jobs on paper weigh less than the one vague heap they made in your head. Spirit quartz, with a point for almost every one of them, sits on the page while you work down it.
Spiritual properties
No two points on a spirit quartz cluster face the same direction, and yet all of them grew from one shared base. Set the cluster in the middle of the next circle you sit in, where everyone can see it and no one needs to hold it.
Physical properties
Take a spirit quartz cluster by its base and lower your other palm over it until the points just meet the skin, with no more pressure than a settling feather. Care and cleansing
Spirit quartz's tiny points snap off when gripped, dropped or packed against other stones, and amethyst clusters fade in strong sun, so handle it by its base and keep it in shade. A bell rung beside it cleanses it without the grit a rinse can leave between the points, and moonlight charges it. Store it alone, upright and cushioned.
