What Rhodochrosite means
Rhodochrosite forms in pink and red bands inside cooling mineral veins, most famously at Argentina's Capillitas mine, where miners named the banded stone Inca rose. Manganese carbonate all the way through, it is soft enough to mark easily and asks to be handled with some care.
Emotional properties
Rhodochrosite works on the quieter argument, the one about whether you deserve good things at all, not just the people who ask you for them. Its banded pink puts one question plainly: what have you given yourself this week? If the honest answer is nothing, book the thing you keep postponing, a haircut, a free afternoon, a concert ticket, before the week closes.
Spiritual properties
Split rhodochrosite and it parts along flat, predictable planes rather than shattering into splinters. A boundary can work the same way, giving at a line you chose in advance instead of wherever the pressure happens to land. Physical properties
Pleasure taken slowly is rhodochrosite's business, and the plainest pleasure of all is a meal eaten at the table rather than over the sink. Put the fork down between mouthfuls, the stone beside the plate, and let each taste finish before the next begins. Chewing slowly is the whole practice, and the stone is only there to keep the pace.
Care and cleansing
Three things harm rhodochrosite: a knock, which may cleave it cleanly in two; a scratch, since it is soft; and any acid, from lemon juice to perfume. A dry chamois cleans it well enough. It recharges well by candlelight and is safest stored in a padded tin.
