What Lepidolite means
Manganese tints lepidolite lilac, and its mica grows in sheets stacked as fine as pages inside pegmatite. Miners dig it for lithium, the light metal now packed into phone batteries.
Emotional properties
The evening after a day of small frictions, a curt email, a missed call, a queue that never moved, is when lepidolite comes out of the drawer. Its layered structure mirrors the way one worry sits on top of another, each thin sheet its own thought. Holding a piece and running a thumb across its flaking edge gives that stacking somewhere physical to go. The pile loosens a little with each pass.
Spiritual properties
Each sheet of lepidolite parts from the next along one plane only, never across it, so the stone comes apart in the order it was built. A tangle of worries can be taken apart the same way, top layer first, not all at once. Name the uppermost one tonight and leave the rest where they lie.
Physical properties
Lepidolite's surface is soft enough to mark with a fingernail, and its thin sheets lift if you rub too hard, so it asks to be held loosely rather than gripped. Turn a piece over slowly in your hands in the last half hour before bed, when the fingers are still busy after the rest of you has stopped. Its softness makes it a poor choice for anyone who fidgets roughly, since a few hard turns can flake its edge.
Care and cleansing
Lepidolite flakes if scrubbed or dropped, so handle it gently and skip a hard soak that could lift its thin layers. Clear it with a soft brush or a pass of smoke, charge it in gentle window light, and store it wrapped, on its own.
A question to sit with
What thought are you trying to hold all at once instead of one layer at a time?
