What Larimar means
Blue pectolite this pure turns up almost nowhere but one volcanic range in the Dominican Republic, where it was named larimar in 1974, after a discoverer's daughter, Larissa, and mar, the Spanish for sea.
Emotional properties
You spend most of the working day keeping your face steady, whatever is happening behind it. A larimar pendant gives your fingers somewhere to go between one polite answer and the next. At home it goes on the table, and the face you held all day can go slack at last.
Spiritual properties
Larimar formed in volcanic rock, yet its blue reads as calm water. White veins cross it like sunlight moving over a sandy sea floor, seen from just below the surface. Meditate with it as if you were floating there, face up, held by water that wants nothing from you. After ten minutes, the fire it came from seems a long way off.
Physical properties
Larimar takes a smooth, silky polish that fingers slide over easily. Pressed against the collarbone, it offers an outward calm your body has not quite caught up to yet. Leave it there for the length of a slow song, and the shoulders follow it down.
Care and cleansing
Larimar's blue fades if it sits in strong sun too long, so charge it instead in soft morning light or moonlight. Wash it with a soft cloth dipped in cool water, and let it live in a pouch between wearings to protect its polish.
A question to sit with
Can your composure and whatever sits underneath it both get heard today?
