What Herkimer diamond means
A Herkimer diamond needs no cutting; it grows already faceted, plucked whole from a dolomite pocket near the Mohawk River. Despite its name it is quartz, not diamond, and it rewards you for valuing what is actually true over what merely sounds impressive.
