What Fire agate means
Fire agate hides its colour until the light finds the right angle, thin layers of iron oxide inside common chalcedony catching red, gold and green like a flame seen through smoked glass. It rewards patience the way its own iridescence does, revealing more the longer you actually look.
Emotional properties
Somewhere along the way you learned to keep your enthusiasm to yourself, the first time it earned an eye-roll. Take fire agate to the next meeting where you mean to let some of it show, and turn the stone once before you speak up. Someone in the room will have been waiting to hear it.
Spiritual properties
Courage that starts low, in the belly, is mostly invisible from outside; it looks like someone staying in the room. Fire agate keeps company with that kind. Bring it into meditation before a conversation you would rather leave, and rest your free hand below your navel until the urge to go has passed.
Physical properties
Polished fire agate keeps a lumpy, bubbled surface, since the cutter has to follow its curving layers rather than grind flat through them. Run a thumb over those small domes during the last mile of a long walk, one dome per stride, and let the count set the pace your legs keep. Its colour lives just under that skin, the way reserves do.
Care and cleansing
A scratch can cut through fire agate's thin iridescent layers and leave a dull line in the flame, so keep it in a padded box of its own. Underneath it is chalcedony, happy with warm soapy water and a soft cloth. Charge it beside a lit candle for an evening, which suits a stone named for fire.
A question to sit with
What passion have you been keeping banked instead of letting it catch the light?
