What Orange calcite means
Calcite forms wherever water carries dissolved limestone and sets it back down, and traces of iron turn this variety the bright orange of a cut orange rind. Geologists still use its fizz in a weak acid as a quick field test for the mineral.
Emotional properties
A calcite crystal this shade of orange looks like it should taste of the fruit it shares a name with, bright enough to read as flavour before it registers as mineral. Set one on the desk through a flat, grey week, and let its brightness answer the mood before motivation has to. By evening, something small has usually earned a genuine reaction, the first real one of the day.
Spiritual properties
Creative work begins as play long before it becomes a practice, and orange calcite belongs to that early, unserious stage. The Page of Wands it partners in a reading is a beginner holding a staff that has only just sprouted leaves, all promise and no plan. Try one thing in the next few days purely to find out what happens.
Physical properties
A copper coin will scratch orange calcite, and tumbled pieces wear down to a soft, rounded smoothness that the fingers keep returning to. After a long stretch of sitting, a piece held low against the belly is a cue to stand and let the hips roll loose before the next task. Its orange suits the sacral centre, low in the body, where most movement starts.
Care and cleansing
Vinegar, lemon juice and most cleaning sprays will etch orange calcite, and a fall onto a hard floor can split it along its cleavage, so handle it gently. Plain water, splashed on and dried at once, cleans it safely; morning sun recharges it, and a pouch to itself keeps harder stones off its surface.
A question to sit with
Has something small already managed to break through today's flatness?
