What Snowflake obsidian means
White flowers of cristobalite bloom through snowflake obsidian's black, spots where the volcanic glass has started to turn crystalline. Given enough time the whole stone would go the same way, which is why obsidian older than about twenty million years is rare.
Emotional properties
Some days feel like one uniform dark, nothing to hold onto, nothing standing out. Snowflake obsidian's white bursts break that flatness up without pretending the black around them was never there. Keep it where a hard week can see it, and let one pale patch count as enough good to notice.
Spiritual properties
Each white flower in snowflake obsidian began at a single speck and grew outward on all sides, fine fibres of cristobalite radiating from that one point. A spiritual practice grows the same way, from one small habit kept long enough to spread into the rest of the day. Choose the habit worth being that speck, and keep it for a month before adding another.
Physical properties
Tumbled snowflake obsidian polishes to the slick, even finish of bottle glass, because glass is what it is. When small print has held your eyes for an hour, trace the white flowers across its black one by one, letting your focus hop from bloom to bloom. Those small jumps give the eyes something other than print to follow.
Care and cleansing
A cracked or unpolished edge of snowflake obsidian can cut, so handle rough pieces carefully and keep them from small hands. Tumbled pieces are safe to rinse; dry them, then charge them for an hour on a windowsill in daylight. A cloth bag keeps its glass from being scratched by quartz and other harder stones.
A question to sit with
Does one pale patch in a dark week count as enough good to notice?
