What Amber means
Amber is not a mineral but tree resin turned to stone over millions of years, sunlight trapped and slowed down until it could be held. It carries warmth the way a Leo carries confidence, easily and without apology.
Emotional properties
You already know the day: drained by other people's demands, your own vitality thinned to almost nothing. Warming a piece of amber in your palm gives some of that presence back. Grief in particular softens near it, easing rather than disappearing outright. By evening your voice carries across the table again.
Spiritual properties
Ancient people burned amber as incense and buried it with their dead, trusting it to carry something of the sun into the dark. Its old relationship with fire and preservation still shows in how it is used today, as a stone for keeping your own light lit through a hard season. Sitting with it can bring up old memories, the way insects are sometimes caught inside it, whole and visible. Whatever memory surfaces can stay in view exactly as long as it needs to.
Physical properties
Pick up amber and it is warm almost at once, less like stone than something alive. Rub it briskly against wool and it holds a static charge, the same trick that gave electricity its name, elektron, the Greek word for amber. That charge is a small, safe jolt, static electricity, not lightning, closer to a wool jumper than a storm. Its plain physical comfort, warmth held from long ago, is reason enough to carry it.
Care and cleansing
Amber is soft resin, so heat, perfume and household chemicals mar it; wipe it clean with a soft damp cloth. Keep it out of direct sun and away from hot cars or open flames, which darken it and craze the surface. Your hand's warmth is enough to recharge it, and it stores best alone, away from harder stones.
A question to sit with
What would it take to let your own warmth be steady instead of performed?
