sorrow · painful clarity · acknowledgement

Three of Swords, from the Ishtar Insights tarot deck

What Three of Swords means

Some pain has nothing broken underneath it. The sorrow this suit deals in is cognitive: the body has been left alone, and a person understands something now that they understood differently an hour ago. The mind keeps no procedure for unknowing. A thing once grasped can be set aside, argued with, or left unmentioned for decades, and none of that returns anyone to the condition of not having grasped it. Saturn takes its exaltation in Libra, the one sign the tradition honours it in, and that honour is spent here. Nobody did this to anyone. Something became true and was afterwards found out, in that order.

Upright

An unwelcome truth or disappointment deserves a direct, gentle acknowledgement. Give the experience words without turning a painful moment into a complete account of yourself.

Reversed

Repair can begin with allowing the hurt to be named. Notice whether revisiting the story is helping you understand it or keeping the wound in the center.

A question to sit with

What truth can I acknowledge with more kindness?
