Seven of Cups, from the Ishtar Insights tarot deck

What Seven of Cups means

Wanting is not a waiting room for having. It is a condition with satisfactions of its own, chief among them that anything still wanted has yet to disappoint, which gives it a standing advantage over whatever is already to hand. Where an appetite cannot reach the thing it is for, it multiplies the things it is for, and the multiplying is enjoyable in itself — the field widens because widening it is the pleasurable part of the operation. Venus takes the last face of Scorpio here, desire at its most concentrated and its least practical. The appetite the Seven names is an appetite for possibility, which no particular possibility would satisfy.

Upright

Many possibilities can be inspiring and difficult to choose among. Bring one attractive option into daylight and compare its real demands with its promise.

Reversed

The field may be narrowing enough to make a choice. Use what you have learned about your priorities, and resist replacing uncertainty with false certainty.

A question to sit with

Which possibility still appeals when I include its practical demands?

Traditional attribution

Venus in Scorpio. Attributions follow the Golden Dawn with Waite's numbering.
