What Page of Swords means

Writing a thought down changes its status. Until then it can be revised silently, and its owner can honestly hold several versions at once; committed to a surface it becomes one version, in one order, with a date attached. The Page is the rank at which that becomes possible for the suit: a thought given an outside, available to people who were not there when it formed. Most of what gets called rigour follows from that single change, since a position cannot be compared with itself until two dated copies exist. A question written down in March can be read again in November, and in November it is still the same question, whatever has become of the mood that asked it.
