Five of Cups, from the Ishtar Insights tarot deck

What Five of Cups means

Mars rules Scorpio, which makes this face of it that placement doing precisely what it is equipped for: a subtraction performed cleanly, with no error in it to appeal against. The Five’s subject is what goes on working afterwards — an attachment that does not dissolve when its object does, still operating with nothing left to operate on. Grief is the name for that residue, and its size is a measurement of the worth of what is gone. The Five sets out the stretch of time in which a person goes on being attached to something that has stopped being there.

Upright

Let disappointment have its rightful place. When you are ready, turn gently toward what remains available; acknowledging support does not erase what mattered.

Reversed

A loss may be finding a place in a larger story. Allow repair or reconnection at your own pace, without requiring yourself to be finished with grief.

A question to sit with

What remains worthy of care alongside what I have lost?
