Eight of Swords, from the Ishtar Insights tarot deck

What Eight of Swords means

From here the suit turns its instrument on the person holding it. The first seven cards apply division outward, to options and disputes and other people; the Gemini decans — the Eight, the Nine and the Ten — apply the same faculty inward, where it works just as well. A capacity for finding the flaw in an argument finds the flaws in its owner at the same rate and with the same accuracy. Jupiter sits in detriment in Gemini, the planet of the large view in the sign that works at close range, which is the Eight’s difficulty exactly: the analysis is sound and its subject is the analyst.

Upright

A situation may feel narrower than it is. Separate real limits from feared responses, then identify one choice or source of help that remains available.

Reversed

A restrictive story may be loosening its hold. Test the new freedom in a small way and let experience, rather than pressure, build confidence.

A question to sit with

Which limit is real, and which one could I safely question?

Traditional attribution

Jupiter in Gemini. Attributions follow the Golden Dawn with Waite's numbering.
