The Lovers, from the Ishtar Insights tarot deck

What The Lovers means

Less a card of romance than of terms. Two things joined become a third with requirements of its own, and this one carries both the pull towards union and the narrowing that union costs, since a yes of that size is also a set of noes. What is given up in a joining is rarely what either party expected to give up, and the card is more interested in that miscalculation than in the attraction that preceded it. Older readings turned on a moment of decision, though the older names say only the Lover. Its question is not who a person wants but what they are prepared to be bound by.

Upright

The important choice is the one that brings your actions into alignment with your values. Let honesty be more persuasive than urgency.

Reversed

A split between desire and values is asking to be acknowledged. Stop negotiating against yourself and name the choice you can stand behind.

A question to sit with

What would an aligned yes look like in practice?

Traditional attribution

Gemini. Attributions follow the Golden Dawn with Waite's numbering.
