What The Hierophant means
This is the card of mediation. A hierophant stands between a person and whatever they take to be sacred, and the question it puts is whether that position transmits or intercepts. Institutions preserve what individuals lose — a practice survives because someone kept repeating it long after the reason was obvious — and the same repetition flattens what it preserves. Its authority is second-hand by design: the office speaks for something and never as it, so everything on offer here arrives at one remove from the source it points at.
Upright
A trusted practice or teacher can give your question a useful frame. Learn the lineage, then decide what you want to carry forward.
Reversed
A borrowed rule may no longer fit the life you are actually living. Question the script without dismissing the wisdom that shaped it.
