The Fool, from the Ishtar Insights tarot deck

What The Fool means

Zero is not a quantity, and the Fool is the only major that refuses a fixed place in the count; older packs let it sit anywhere, or outside the pack entirely. It stands for unformed potential — the condition of a person before experience has handed them something to defend. Air belongs behind it, a medium that takes the shape of whatever contains it and holds none of its own. Courts that kept a licensed fool were buying a freedom, not tolerating a deficiency: the one who knows least is also the one with nothing to protect. Innocence and exposure arrive here as a single fact seen from two sides.

Upright

A fresh start is asking for your attention. Follow curiosity, keep your pack light, and let the first step teach you what the map cannot.

Reversed

The wish to begin is real, but the footing may need checking. Slow down long enough to notice the edge, then choose your leap with care.

A question to sit with

What would you try if you did not need the whole path first?
